How the conversion works
The engine parses the EPUB's XHTML content, CSS styling, and embedded fonts, then reflows everything into PDF format using LibreOffice Writer under the hood. Headings become PDF bookmarks, images and tables are positioned precisely, and the resulting PDF can be searched, annotated, and printed just like any other. The engine preserves the nine recognition languages supported by the Docling Granite suite, so multilingual ebooks keep their formatting across language boundaries.
When PDF beats EPUB
Any ebook you want to print, distribute to readers who use fixed-layout readers, or archive long-term. PDF is the standard for printed books, course materials, and anything where page order matters — poetry collections, children's books with illustrations, technical manuals with numbered steps, and photography portfolios. If you need to send a copy to a publisher, a printer, or a colleague who won't install an EPUB reader, PDF is the safer bet.
Quick tips before you convert
One minute of prep saves hours of fixes. If your EPUB has custom CSS for footnotes, endnotes, or margin notes, those may not carry over exactly — preview the PDF output and adjust your source if needed. Keep images at full resolution; the converter scales them into the PDF, and blurry thumbnails reduce readability.
